Cast Your Vote, Spread The Word and Show Your Love
Almost three years ago, I was sitting with my friends to discuss the idea of a new website to feature and promote free and open source resources for web designers and developers. We came up with this website which currently features more than 1500 open source resources.
It has always been very rewarding to see people finding and getting benefit of open source resources every day. And we are hopeful that this website would expand even further and contribute to the development and promotion of open source. We are also thankful to our friends, fans and contributors for helping us grow from a small website to the size that we have achieved.
As a recognition of our efforts, Greepit has been nominated as Best Technology Blog for Pakistan Blog Awards. We would like to request you to vote for us here (No login / signup required, visit and rate).
Users can cast vote by rating stars as shown in the screenshot above. Show your love by good ratings and some nice comments.

7 Vows of Freelancers on Freelancers Day
Today on September 23, 2011, as we are observing International Freelancers Day, Greepit! is sharing a few useful ideas for freelancers and solo professionals.
The inspiration for this pose came from observation that most of the freelancers (very talented and creative) tend to work as ‘invisible professionals’ who deliver a lot of superb work but forget to establish their own identity. Ideas shared in this post are for all those modest freelancers to help them grow professionally and established their identity as visionaries, entrepreneurs and creative individuals; not just as ghost developers.

QR Codes: Creative Marketing Tool for Solo Designers & Developers
How do you advertise yourself as solo designer, small business or a freelance developer?
If you are relying on traditional methods like word of mouth, social networking, emails etc., simple mathematics will tell you that you are converting only a fraction of your audience into your customers. (Just compare your facebook fans or Twitter followers with the number of new customers).
Fortunately, there are a number of ways small businesses or solo professionals can advertise their products or services without having to hit their pockets – take the example of Quick Response (QR) Codes. Initially used in automobile manufacturing, QR codes are gaining popularity as an effective medium for advertisement and brand promotion.

Marketing yourself with QR codes is easy, quick and simple. All you have to do is create a free QR code and place it at all interesting places – elevators, bus stops, conferences, business cards, blogs, websites, avatars, display picture etc. Your audience would need a smart phone with a tiny QR reader application to read your message and trace back to your website.

Google’s ‘Like’ Button: +1 Button
To put it simple, Google +1 button is a new dimension of social bookmarking. It adds your favorite websites, recipes, videos to your profile (something like Stumbleupon and other bookmarking services). It aggregates popularity of products, services, website etc. (something like Facebook ‘Like’ button).

Google +1 service gathers all this data (popularity, favorites/likes) to recommend useful and related links to website visitors. For instance, you are searching for a Chinese recipe on Google and get top rated Chinese recipes recommended by people in your network in search results. Take another example, you are browsing through an online furniture store and see links to useful products and related online stores recommended by people via Google +1 service.
Quite good for Web surfers but what is in it for website owners and bloggers?
With Google +1 service enabled on your website, visitors can trust your products/services because they are recommended by people; this could give a serious boost to your sales. Visitors can also get useful and quality links; the result is a better online experience and more visitors coming back to your websites.
Interesting? Try it yourself and leave your comments here about your experience with Google +1.
